The fiber is G657A2 with a minimum bend radius of around 7.5mm, tighter than G657A1 (around 10mm). This bend performance lets the fiber be wound and released inside a compact reel without large attenuation penalties during sharp internal routing.
Drone fiber fails most often during dynamic release, not at rest. The standard version supports around 50N tensile strength, with enhanced or customized versions available up to 55–60N. Based on field trial feedback from similar long-range applications, a controlled-tensile A2 fiber improves unwinding stability compared with standard telecom fiber.
The 200/242μm coating is thinner than standard 245μm fiber, so more fiber fits on a reel at lower weight. For airborne platforms where every gram affects flight time and range, the reduced diameter directly supports longer winding length without adding payload.
Typical attenuation is around ≤0.35 dB/km at 1310nm and ≤0.22 dB/km at 1550nm. Low and consistent attenuation is what supports clear, stable signal transmission over long unwinding distances, rather than relying on a single marketing distance figure.
The internal wiring approach secures the fiber inside the housing and at the ground end, which helps prevent loosening and displacement during takeoff, landing and high-speed maneuvers. This lowers the practical break risk across repeated missions.
